Much anticipation has been in the air as regard to John Obi Mikel’s recent exit from Turkish football, the midfielder has finally revealed his reason behind leaving the Super Lig club, Trabzonspor.
Mikel, 32-year old and former Chelsea player left the Turkish top flight club by mutual consent on Tuesday, days after expressing his concerns on football action amid the coronavirus outbreak.
Goal.com has cited the burly midfielder, Mikel’s reason as being his determination to put the safety of his family first.
Mikel wrote a message to his league leaders, Trabzonspor, on his Instagram page, wishing them well as they aim for the league crown this season.
In Mikel’s words; “I would like to thank all the fans for their support. I also want to say thanks to all my teammates, technical crew, medical team and kit men for all we’ve achieved this season so far.
“It was one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make, but in current situation we all need take care of our families, spend time with them and protect them.”
