As COVID-19 cases in Kano hit 311, Ganduje told to increase health workers’ allowances

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) Kano State Chapter has urged Governor Umar Ganduje to review the hazard allowances for frontline health workers fighting the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

Mr Kabir Ado, the NLC Chairman, in his message to commemorate the Workers Day celebration, on Friday in Kano urged the State Government to facilitate upward review of allowances to motivate its health workers.

Ado said the call was imperative to encourage the workers to put in their best in the fight against the pandemic which is on the increase in the state.

Kano is presently the second state with the highest number of confirmed cases of Coronavirus in Nigeria.

The Nigeria Center for Disease Control, NCDC, on Friday night confirm a new ninety-two cases in the state in addition to the 219 cases earlier recorded.

NLC Chairman said Mr Kabir Ado; “We also wish to call on the authorities to ensure provision of adequate Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and upward review of hazard allowances to all category of workers to ensure their safety.

“The articulation of health workers insurance policy will add vigour to the frontline workers fighting the pandemic,” he said.

Mr Kabir Ado appealed to workers, pensioners to observe precautionary measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 pandemic, NAN reports.
