On Thursday the Nigeria Center for Disease Control, NCDC has revealed the age bracket of Nigerians majorly spreading the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, Director-General, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) during PTF COVID-19 briefing in Abuja said that Nigerian youths between the ages of 20 and 40 are majorly responsible for the spread of the COVID-19.

The NCDC boss, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, warned youths to be careful, adding that older people from 50 years and above are the ones mostly dying from the disease.

As of Thursday, Nigeria has a total of 27,110 confirmed cases of Coronavirus since the outbreak.

Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu said: “As more people are infected across the world, the numbers are increasing.

“It is obvious that transmission among younger people really, not children, but people aged between 20 and 40 as far as we know are really driving the spread of this virus, but those that are bearing the brunt of it are people age 50 and above.

“Three out of five people who died from COVID-19 are 50 and above so we have to work harder, all of us collectively to protect the elderly in our midst.

He further urged Nigerians to remember to observe safety measures despite the relaxation of restrictions and opening of airports.

“Everyone needs to show the elderly citizens love and affection by not exposing them to the virus,” he added.
