…Distributes Face Masks to Trainee Drivers
As part of efforts to ensure that Drivers in Lagos State comply with safety guidelines in respect of the Coronavirus pandemic, the Lagos State Drivers’ Institute has distributed 200 face masks to professional drivers who presented themselves for training at the Institute.
Speaking during the events which took place at the Institute’s headquarters in Oshodi and Lagos Island Centres on different occasions, the General Manager LASDRI, Mrs. Afusat Tiamiyu, reiterated the need for all drivers to comply strictly with the COVID-19 safety guidelines as issued by the Lagos State and Federal Governments.
She stated that Coronavirus disease is still much in our society and as such, drivers should comply strictly with the COVID-19 safety rules and regulations stipulated by the State government so as to curb its spread, noting that the majority of road users have let down their guard due to the erroneous belief that the COVID-19 era is over.
In her words: “COVID-19 is real and it is still very much with us, contrary to the recent assumption among some residents in the State that we are in the post-COVID-19 era already. Recent data updates have shown that the rate of the infection is on the increase”.
Tiamiyu added that with the level of awareness campaigns embarked upon by the Lagos State Government across the metropolis and the various media, most drivers are already aware of what to do to keep safe at all times.
She, therefore, advised the trainee drivers to ensure that they comply strictly with all the safety guidelines as part of their daily routine, stressing that good health and sound mind are key factors in safe driving among others.
The General Manager also restated the need for professional drivers to register with LASDRI to be well trained with the standard facilities put in place by the State Government for their benefit rather than patronising touts.
