Youths participating in the #EndSars protest have shut down the country’s second-largest Port, the Onne Port Complex in Eleme Local Government Area.
The #EndSars protest which is now on it’s second consecutive day in Onne is holding by the Federal Ocean Terminal junction and has shut economic activities as workers cannot access their work premises.
City News gathered that the protest affected the Federal Ocean Terminal, the Federal Lighter Terminal, the Onne Oil and Gas Free Zone, Intels Services, Prodeco, the Nigerian Naval Vollwge, and other oil and marine servicing firms operating in the area.
The youths who are displaying flags and placards with #EndSars messages, lamented police brutality, and urged the government to ensure justice for persons killed by the disbanded SARS.
The youths are also demanding employment, empowerment, and social amenities from the companies operating in the area. Police operatives and other security agents have been deployed in the area to monitor the protest.
City News gathered some of the protesters took time off to play football, sing, dance, and treat themselves to a lunch of boiled yam and goat meat pepper soup.
Meanwhile some of the protesting youths have, this afternoon, gone to drop a casket in front of the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA). The reason is unclear.
In the meantime, the Eleme Local Government Chairman, Philip Okparaji has joined in the call for the total reform of the Nigerian Police as youths in Onne joined in the #EndSARS protest.
He however pleaded with the protesters not to behave unruly or allow hoodlums hijack the protest adding that the people have the fundamental right to peaceful assembly.
