Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has urged his Delta State counterpart, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, to sustain the legacy of his late father, Chief Arthur Okorie Uzoma Okowa.
Governor Wike stated this when he paid a condolence visit to Governor Okowa at the Government House, Asaba on Monday.
Governor Wike explained that he was deeply saddened when he learnt of the death of Chief Okowa, who was a powerful force in the life of the Delta State governor.
The Rivers State Governor said though the death of Chief Okowa was tragic and most unfortunate, those who he had left behind should take solace in the fact that it is God who gives life and takes same.
Governor Wike advised his Delta State counterpart to ensure he sustains the legacy his late father left behind. According to him, Chief Okowa died a fulfilled man because it is every man’s dream that his children should excel in life and surpass his achievements.
He stated that he decided to personally lead a delegation to Asaba because whatever affects Delta State, affects Rivers State.
Governor Wike also commiserated with the Governor Okowa on the death of the Majority Leader of the Delta State House of Assembly, Sir Kim Kome Owerefe, who represented Isoko North Constituency.
He noted that the death of the Majority leader is a big blow to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) family in the country.
In his response, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on behalf of his family said he was gladdened by Governor Wike and the Rivers State delegation’s visit.
He stated that Governor Wike is the first among his colleagues to visit him in person.
“My father has lived a full life and we give God the glory that he has called him home.”
The Delta State Governor said his father was a good man, who once worked as a teacher before venturing into politics.
Governor Okowa said he is still saddened by the abrupt death of the Delta State House of Assembly Majority Leader.
“He was full of life and a very dependable person, but it has pleased God to call him at this point in time.”
