The Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has warned that the anthem currently being used by Oduduwa Republic agitators was approved for the state, not for any secession agenda.

It was reported that the Ondo State Executive Council (SEC), which was dissolved on February 18, 2021, earlier approved the indigenous anthem for the state.

However, some secessionists have adopted the anthem for their Oduduwa Republic agenda, especially those led by the Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho.

But in a statement on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Olabode Richard Olatunde, the governor clarified that the anthem is aimed at promoting the Yoruba culture and not secession ideals.

“It has come to the notice of the state governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, that the anthem is being referred to as Oodua Anthem.

“Governor Akeredolu wishes to state that what was approved for the state is Ondo State Anthem but not Oodua Anthem.

“The intention of adopting the Ondo State Anthem is to promote the tradition and culture of the Yoruba race.

“This clarification is necessary to avoid misinterpretation, misconception and outright misunderstanding of the aim of the state government”.
