The Federal Government has summoned the Indonesian Ambassador to Nigeria over the assault on a Nigerian official in Jakarta.
Foreign Affairs Minister, Geoffrey Onyeama condemned the treatment in a statement.
He noted that the action was against international law and the Vienna Conventions governing Diplomatic and Consular Relations between States.
The minister said he had seen the circulating video of the August 7 incident which happened in front of the diplomat’s residence.
“The Ambassador explained what he understood happened and apologized unreservedly on behalf of the Government of Indonesia”, the statement read.
However, Nigeria has sent an official protest to the Government of Indonesia.
Onyeama added that the country’s ambassador has confirmed that the culpable immigration officials had apologized for their action.
