A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Joe Igbokwe, has accused people of the Southeast of playing ethnic politics.

Igbokwe said Igbo people would continue to remain onlookers in Nigeria’s political sphere.

He made the remark while reacting to the ongoing governorship election in Anambra State.

The APC chieftain urged the people of the Southeast to stop playing politics of isolation.

In a post on his Facebook page, the aide to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State said the southeast should be working towards connecting with the Federal Government politically.

He wrote: “I had thought that Igbo will move beyond ethnic politics and work to connect to the center to meet other Nigerians, but ife ji Ndigbo jisi ha ike. We will continue to be onlookers.

“Politics is a game of numbers, Igbo cannot continue to play politics of isolation in the 21st century and expect that miracle will happen. It is time to build bridges and not burn bridges.”

The All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, is currently leading in the ongoing governorship election in Anambra State.

APGA is widely believed to be a regional party with a base in the Southeast.
