On Tuesday Justice Binta Nyako of an Abuja Federal High Court rejected the bail application of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.
The judge said Kanu had failed to inform the court why he could not attend his trials in the last four years.
Justice Nyako’s ruling was disclosed by Kanu’s Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimajor, via his Twitter handle.
Ejimakor said the judge was willing to entertain a new bail application from Kanu.
“June 28 Update: Sadly, the Judge has denied bail to #MNK on grounds that “for 4 years, nothing was filed” in her court to explain why Onyendu did not attend his trial.
“She said she is open to considering a new application for bail and she granted a stay of the criminal proceedings,” Ejimakor tweeted.
