Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has described the election of the Chairman of Enyimba International Football Club of Aba, Chief Felix Anyansi Agwu as 1st Vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) as a befitting recognition of his years of commitment and dedication to the development of football over the years.
The Governor stated this today when he received Chief Felix Anyansi Agwu at the Governor’s Lodge Aba.
Agwu, who had previously served as a member of the NFF’s Executive Committee, was on Friday last week elected and sworn into the second highest office of Nigerian football at the Federation’s Congress held in Benin City, Edo State.
In the words of the Governor, “I was very happy when I heard the news and I want to say clearly that it is a well deserved recognition of your years of dedication to the development of football, especially in Abia State through Enyimba Football Club.
“On behalf of the good people of Abia State, I congratulate you and also want to assure you and the new NFF Board of our constant support.
“Nigerians are religious about football and everybody wants to see you succeed, so I wish you and the new Board the very best as you work towards returning Nigerian football to where it belongs.
“I also want to use this opportunity to reassure you that Enyimba remains very dear to my heart and my government is willing to do everything within its power to ensure that you return to play continental football because that is what the club is known for.”
In his response, Agwu commended the Governor for his commitment to the progress of Abia State and its people.
“I want to sincerely thank you, Your Excellency, for all the good work that you have been doing in the state. This achievement would not have been possible without the platform that you gave me, that is why I want to dedicate it to you and to the good people of Abia State.”
“My emergence as Vice President is a good thing, not just for me, but for Abia State and the entire South East, that is why I want to assure you, Sir, that we will run an all-inclusive administration that will be open to the opinion of everyone.
“Like you mentioned , football is like a religion in Nigeria, therefore there cannot be any excuse for failure for us. We will work hard to ensure that our football returns to its glory days.”
