On Tuesday the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has made an appeal to the abductors of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Okey Wali not to harm the senior citizen.
The 64-year old legal expert was taken on Monday on the East–West Road in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The gunmen dressed in military uniform ambushed his convoy, reportedly killed two aides and shot three policemen.
In a statement on Tuesday, NBA president, Yakubu Maikyau begged the kidnappers not to harm the prominent lawyer.
He said Wali, 26th president of the NBA, had served in different capacities, contributing to the profession and entrenchment of the rule of law.
“I, therefore, plead with the abductors not to harm Wali and make a passionate appeal for his release to his family.
“The NBA assures his family of our full support in this trying period, even as we join in praying for his safe return.”
Maikyau added that the incident reminds one of the nation’s weak security system and urged the government to secure Nigerians.
The statement urged the police not to leave any stone unturned as they work towards freeing the captive.
Wali was first abducted in Rumualogu in Port Harcourt on October 15, 2014, while going to visit his brother.
