Traders and residents in Aba the commercial city of Abia state are counting their loses following the lack of electricity supply by Geometric Power Plant in Aba for over two weeks.
A resident at the Hospital road axis of aba Mr Chinedu Okafor who spoke to our correspondent on Thursday lamented that aba is now in darkness for weeks now following the inability of Geometric Power plant t supply electricity to the city.
”We are consuming too much fuel daily to run our bussinesses and homes because for weeks now, we have not seen electricity” he said.
It will be recalled that the Aba Integrated Power Project (Aba IPP) owed by Geometric Power (GP) began power generation in July 2022 , after taken over the Aba Ring Fence from Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC).
When Geometric came to Aba, they had only three sub-stations which could only deliver 80MW, but now, the company have additional sub-stations at Osisioma, Ogbor Hill, Factory Road and Port Harcourt Road that can produce 188MW of electricity, while the whole of the South East at present gets less than 300MW, with Aba getting about 64MW”.
