Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, says his administration will be constructing the biggest single project that will be undertaken by any state in Nigeria.
Last week, He signed the supplementary budget of N200 billion recently passed by the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The budget, according to the governor, is for the commencement of the construction work on the proposed Port Harcourt Ring Road.
Speaking shortly after inspecting the deplorable sections of Degema Street, Harbour Road, and Reclamation Road in the old Port Harcourt Township and the ascending section of the bridge connecting Peter Odili Road to Woji Town, on Tuesday, Governor Fubara stated that the project, which will last for about three years, will be a legacy project to decongest roads in the various localities within Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor local government areas.
The Ring Road, according to Fubara, will navigate six local government areas in the state.
According to him: “When all these places are opened up, people including the real estate investors will start moving in there, and businesses will open up because people have started acquiring land there.
“That is to tell you the importance of the road.”
He assured that permanent solutions are being worked out to ensure that the roads inspected are permanently fixed.
In a statement signed by the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Boniface Onyedi, the governor also inspected ongoing works at the Government Secondary School, Emohua.
He made a stop at the failed portion of Rumuigbo Road and rounded off the inspection tour at Iloabuchi Road which will be part of the route for the Port Harcourt Ring Road project.
