On Friday the former Minister of Education, Obiageli Ezekwesili has said it is impossible to achieve high economic growth, tackle poverty and prosper without prudent management of public resources.
In a statement on her social media platform X, Ezekwesili said it is fiercely urgent for countries, especially Africa, to fix the intransigent poor management of public finance.
The Rights advocate said all the branches and levels of government in Africa have a duty to exemplify good financial governance.
She wrote, “Last week in Berlin @thehertieschool teaching Good Financial Governance to a brilliant class of Development professionals from GIZ @giz_gmbh had me reiterating how fiercely urgent it is for countries- especially in Africa- to fix the intransigent poor management of public finance.
“It is impossible to achieve high economic growth, tackle poverty and prosper without prudent management of public resources.
“All branches (Legislature, Executive and Judiciary) and levels (Federal/Central, State/Province and Local) of governments in Africa have a duty to exemplify Good Financial Governance.
“Are they?
“This is an important question for them to answer at a time like this when Citizens show deep resentment at how they are governed.”
