In a bid to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of their legislative functions, lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly have commenced a two-day refresher workshop at the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILD) in Abuja. The workshop, declared open by Speaker Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas and attended by 27 out of 31 Members, aims to sharpen legislative skills and foster excellence in governance.
During the opening ceremony, Speaker Abbas, represented by Majority Leader Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, emphasized the significance of legislative responsibility and urged participants to approach their duties with seriousness, considering the expectations of their constituents and the state. The initiative of the Rivers State House of Assembly in organizing the workshop was commended.
Rt. Hon. Martin Chike Martin Amaewhule, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, expressed gratitude to Speaker Abbas for his commitment to legislative excellence. He acknowledged the importance of the Legislature, being the nucleus of democracy, and highlighted the participation of 27 Members as a strong testament to the dedication of the assembly.
Welcoming participants, Prof. Abubaker Suleiman, Director-General of NILD, commended the Rivers State House of Assembly for being the first state assembly to hold a workshop at the institute. He pledged the institute’s collaboration for the continued enhancement of the legislative performance of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The opening ceremony also saw the presence of dignitaries, including the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Kingsley Ogundu Chinda.
