Reports indicate that Edison Ehie, the leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly recently suspended by some members, escaped an alleged assassination attempt last night. A press release by Legislative Correspondent Ken Uchendu suggests that the incident occurred around 11 pm on Sunday, November 19, at Ehie’s residence but was thwarted by his security details.
The statement implicates the head of a police tactical unit in the state, along with unidentified others, in the attempted assassination. It warns senior police officers of accountability should any harm befall the lawmaker from Ahoada East and his household. According to the release, CCTV footage, soon to be made public, allegedly identifies the group of armed thugs and police officers, led by SP. Irikefe London Owen and CSP Salihu Masalachi.
Edison Ehie had previously declared himself the Speaker of the State House of Assembly shortly after his suspension by some members led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule. As of now, the Rivers State Police Command has not responded to the allegations against the police involved in the incident.
