The Rivers State House of Assembly has officially addressed and refuted a letter dated December 29, 2023, purportedly written by Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie DSSRS, the member representing Ahoada East Constituency II. The letter falsely claimed his resignation from the position of the Speaker, a role he never held.
In a statement issued by Mr. Emeka Amadi PhD, the Clerk of the Rivers State House of Assembly, he emphasized that Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie DSSRS was never elected as Speaker. The office, as constitutionally defined, was held by Rt. Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule, DSSRS, who was elected on June 5, 2023, following due constitutional processes.
The House has called on the people of Rivers State to disregard the misleading information contained in the letter and warned against the spread of false claims that aim to tarnish the reputation of the legislative body. Mr. Emeka Amadi also urged security agencies to act promptly to maintain the rule of law.
The disclaimer serves to set the record straight and reaffirm the authority of the House to legislate for the public good. The public is urged to take note accordingly.
