Former representative of Rivers South East Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Senator Magnus Abe said his political group has made history in the politics of Rivers state that no future generation of politicians can undermine.
Abe who spoke at a stakeholders meeting on Wednesday in PortHarcourt while declaring his intention to return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), said he has been one of the founding fathers of the party.
He said the group has demonstrated capacity, competence, courage when they took the Social Democratic Party (SDP), a party that was relatively unknown to become a household name in Rivers state within a space of three months is not an easy feat.
The Senator said, “Today, no matter how anybody may want to frame the political conversation in Rivers state, nobody can do so without acknowledging our achievements.
“We had no institutional support, no financial backing, no government assistance behind us but on our own by faith and hard work, we have made a mark for ourselves before God and man which will not go unnoticed. It is recorded in the history books.
“We mobilized and shook the state in a way that it has not been shaken before politically and nobody can escape that reality. Most importantly, we did all these things bare handed. I congratulate you all,” Abe told his supporters.
He reminded the group that politics is about ideas that can positively affect the people by using the instrumentality of government to better the lives of those who are on the streets, towns and villages.
“Our purpose in politics is to change lives and that’s what this struggle stands for and the reason we would not relent.
He urged the people not to work by what people say but by what they believe.
The Senator went further to say that the purpose of calling the meeting was to notify them of his intention to return to the APC inorder to support the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and to ensure that Rivers people are part of national development as well as benefiting from the government at the centre.
He went further to say that his coming back to APC is to work together with other members of the party to ensure growth, inclusion, prosperity and progress for Rivers State and Rivers People.
