Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar’s spokesman, Daniel Bwala, claims he told his former principal about his meeting with President Bola Tinubu in February 2023.
“I informed Atiku Abubakar I was going to see the President,” said Bwala, who made the revelations on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics program.
He added, “After I had seen the President, I informed him (Atiku) that I had just seen the President and he replied to me that, ‘Thanks Daniel for notifying me’.”
Bwala, a strong critic of Tinubu, who was the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the 2023 presidential election, recently announced his support for the former Lagos State governor.
Bwala clarified that his decision to support Tinubu in the February 2023 presidential election does not mean that he has betrayed Atiku, another presidential candidate.
“It’s absolute nonsense for somebody to say because I said I will support President Bola Tinubu therefore I betrayed Atiku,” the lawyer said matter-of-factly on the programme.
He described his criticisms as absurd, criticisms trailing his sudden-found support for Tinubu whom he flayed during the 2023 politicking process.
When Tinubu revealed that Kashim Shettima, the former governor of Borno, would be his running partner, Bwala, who was then an APC member, left the ruling party in July 2022. Bwala criticised Tinubu for selecting a Muslim, Ifeanyi Okowa, as his running mate and swiftly jumped on board Atiku’s campaign, the Muslim former vice president who selected a Christian, the former governor of Delta.
Bwala, who was one of the most outspoken and frank campaign spokespersons for Atiku during the recent election surprised Nigerians on Wednesday by meeting with the President at Aso Villa in Abuja and announcing his unwavering support for him.
He has since faced an intense outpouring of criticism, with numerous individuals challenging his political beliefs. However, the he asserted that “even ideology cannot be fixed.”
