Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has expressed profound grief at the passing of Mr. John Okafor, also referred to as Mr. Ibu.
Okafor, a well-known humorist in Nigerian cinema, passed away on March 2 following a protracted fight with diabetes.
In a condolence message issued by his press secretary, Mr. Christian Aburime, Soludo stated that there was a significant gap in the Nigerian entertainment sector following Mr. Ibu’s passing.
He claimed that millions of people both inside and outside the nation were made to smile and chuckle by Mr. Ibu’s comedy, contagious laugh, and endearing on-screen persona.
“Having acted in over 200 movies in his career, it is acknowledged that the immense contributions Mr Okafor made to the growth and development of Nollywood and the creative industry will remain evergreen.
“His dedication to his craft and his ability to connect with audiences of all ages cemented his place as a true legend of the industry,” he said.
“On behalf of the government and people of Anambra State, Soludo commiserates with Mr. Okafor’s family, friends, and colleagues, including the Actors Guild of Nigeria during this difficult time,” he said.
