The Abia State House of Assembly and Governor Alex Otti were hailed by the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) for doing away with the law that suggested pensions for the state’s former governors and their deputies.

In a statement, the party’s national vice chairman, Rev. Augustine Ehiemere, and national organizing secretary, Emmanuel Igbokwe, praised the governor and lawmakers for their bravery in overturning the pension law, which they deemed to be self-serving.

The Party insisted that state resources be distributed equitably to advance public interest and progress, claiming that the repealed law “only protected the selfish interest of the few that made themselves so rich at the expense of the people” and that it was never in the best interests of the people.

Nonetheless, APGA pleaded with the governor to honor his pledge made during the campaign to pay off the backlog of employee wage arrears and pension arrears owing by Abia retirees from prior administrations.

The party, while applauding the governor for his endeavors to advance the state, advised the governor’s media advisors to steer clear of needless media misinformation over the 24-hour power supply dispute.

APGA said “While the governor’s role in facilitating the project is commendable, members of the public should be allowed to sing the praise of the governor based on verifiable evidence.

“We are all happy that at last, the Geometric Power Plant Aba has come on board. We are also very hopeful that the public power supply in Aba will improve in the days ahead but for now, the blind man can only be told that there is not enough oil and not salt in the soup.”
