Petroleum marketers in Osun State have received a warning from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA, not to stockpile the products.
The state’s citizens were also advised by the government not to stockpile, horde, or acquire petroleum goods in a panic.
Adekunle Adeyemo, the State Coordinator of the NMDPRA, issued the caution on Monday in Osogbo during a press conference.
Adeyemo declared that the agency’s surveillance team will do everything in its power to prevent filling stations from stockpiling the commodity.
He said that any marketers who were discovered stockpiling gasoline or participating in any other type of unethical behavior will be prosecuted in line with the law.
Adeyemo promised that in order to ensure compliance with the quality, quantity, and safety of operations, the agency will step up its monitoring and surveillance of outlets in accordance with its regulatory mission.
He went on to say that independent marketers who have the goods in stock will not be entitled to stockpile it since the government is making every effort to guarantee appropriate availability of the product.
“We want to appeal to independent marketers who have petroleum products in stock to stop hoarding.
“It will be inhuman for those who have the product to be hoarding and inflating the pump price. The surveillance team of the agency is already out to ensure that those who have the product are dispensing it to motorists at a reasonable price,” he said.
