Despite opposition criticism, the Young Progressives Party (YPP) has recommended the Federal Government to reevaluate its position on moving on with the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project.
The YPP National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Egbeola Martins, made this statement in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday.
Martins recommended the government to abandon the Lagos-Calabar project and focus instead on the other areas that required urgent attention.
Before starting new initiatives, he said, the government needed to give priority to important areas that need urgent attention.
“Just like a popular saying, the key is not to prioritise what’s on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities and this comes to mind at this critical moment with the inability of the ruling government to properly schedule their priorities.
“Especially in the midst of abject poverty made worse by the imposition of reckless and insensitive anti-masses policies.
“The Lagos-Calabar coastal project even though it is necessary, it is, however, not expedient, hence not the immediate priority of government as there are more pressing issues.
“Issues such as the poor state of education, health, power, spate of insecurity and poverty confronting the nation,” he said.
Martins stated that the Lagos-Calabar project ought to be shelved given the multitude of shelved projects around the nation, including the East-West Road, the Ajaokuta Steel Project, and the Lagos-Abuja Supersonic Highway.
