After Godwin Emefiele was arraigned on four counts related to printing new Naira notes without following due process, a Federal Capital Territory, or FCT, High Court in Maitama granted him N300 million bail.

According to prior reports, Emefiele entered a not guilty plea when the charge against him from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, or EFCC, was read.

He must also present two sureties, each of whom must own titled property in the Maitama region of the Federal Capital Territory, in order to meet additional requirements associated with the bail.

The defendant was instructed by Justice Anenih to submit his travel documents with the court and to refrain from leaving the nation without the court’s approval.

Judge Hamza Muazu, a different FCT High Court judge who is currently trying Emefiele in a different criminal matter, had previously granted him a similar bail; the judge accepted the terms connected to that bail.

The judge stated that Emefiele’s ability to present the certified true copies (CTCs) of the documents he filed to satisfy Justice Muazu’s earlier bail award would be sufficient.

She postponed the trial’s start date until May 28.
