On Friday, a fire completely destroyed the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited, or NNPCL Tank Farm, located at Kayode Street, Marine Beach, in the Apapa neighborhood of Lagos.

An eyewitness, Mr. Tunde Are, reported that the fire started at approximately 11:00 am.

Before a rescue squad could come, he claimed, people were running helter-skelter to put out the fire.

As of the time this story was filed, the rescue squad, commanded by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, or LASEMA, was still working to contain the blazing fire.

It was discovered that the fire was caused by a petroleum product spill inside the terminal’s perimeter.

Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, the director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, confirmed the incident and stated that a coordinated effort was underway to control it with the help of numerous emergency responders from the oil and gas sector.
