The arrest of Chinasa Nwaneri and three other people has been verified by the Imo State Police Command.
Nwaneri served as Governor Hope Uzodimma’s special adviser on special duties in the past.
Security personnel were rumored to have followed him to a motel on Sunday, when they apprehended him.
According to sources, the governor realized that his signature was purportedly forged on several documents after taking on the role of commissioner for lands.
The Imo State Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, verified that Nwaneri was under the command’s custody in a statement provided to reporters.
According to him, charges of “malicious damage, fraudulent activities, obtaining money under false pretense and illegal use of government power/authority to harass, intimidate and frustrate the citizens of Imo State” led to the arrest of the governor’s former assistant.
He said that there was still work to be done and that more information would be shared when it was ready.
