Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023, has promised to continue running for office as long as he is well.
Atiku made his remarks during an interview on Voice of America’s Hausa program in Abuja.
When asked if he will run for office again, Atiku responded, “Of course, I will keep running for office as long as I am alive and well.”
“Even the former US President Abraham Lincoln contested seven times before finally winning.
“However, given the current state of the PDP, it is clear that a single-handed effort will not suffice to win the election. Strong support and collaboration with other parties are required.”
By the time of the next presidential election in 2027, the former vice president will be eighty-one years old.
Atiku has made six presidential runs, however he has only appeared on the ballot three times: in 2007; in 2019; and in 2023.
The fact that previous US President Abraham Lincoln did not receive the presidential vote on his first try, according to Abubakar, gives him comfort.
He also discussed the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) current dilemma, emphasizing that in order for the party to win the 2027 presidential election, it must remain cohesive and form partnerships with other political organizations.
This occurs in the midst of rumors that he is teaming up with other political parties to create a coalition.
Atiku met with Peter Obi, the rival presidential candidate for the Labour Party, LP, last week.
“This is to anybody that thinks there is going to be a misunderstanding between me and Obi, let me assure you that not even a small issue is going to happen between us.
“Also, we are going to be behind anybody that will be chosen to represent us in the forthcoming elections,” he said about the meeting.
