Lateef Olasunkanmi Fagbemi, SAN, the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, declared that he was unaware of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, who was arrested years ago.
Fagbemi also stated that the cases of Kanu and Sowore are not the same while speaking on the second day of the Ministerial Sectoral Updates, a media event held to commemorate President Bola Tinubu’s first year in office.
The AGF said that Kanu was being imprisoned in accordance with the law, but neglected to bring up the case of Sunday Igboho, the Yoruba Nation activist who was recently liberated by the Federal Government.
When asked why Kanu is still being held by the Department of State Services while individuals like Omoyele Sowore and Sunday Igboho have been freed, the Minister responded, “Nnamdi Kanu and Sowore’s case are not the same.” I’m not familiar with Sowore, and I’m not familiar with Nnamdi Kanu.
“So, Nnamdi Kanu is being held under the rule of law and the court.
“Let’s wait for the decision of the court. No one will be held outside the laws of the country.”
