On Monday, demonstrators demanding the ouster of Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), from Edo State, were attacked by an enraged mob suspected of being thugs loyal to Abure. The protestors were at the party’s Abuja national secretariat.

The anti-Abure demonstrators caused trouble when they broke into the party offices in many vehicles, brandishing signs and singing patriotic songs.

The alleged thugs attacked the cars with sticks and other things when some of the demonstrators got out of one of the vehicles, forcing the drivers to flee.

However, as the thugs began throwing stones into the neighboring Nigeria Union of Journalists Secretariat, driving out newsmen who were reporting the altercation, armed police officers and DSS agents jumped in.

The security personnel’s presence stopped the situation from getting worse.
