An order of interlocutory injunction prohibiting Martin Amaewhule and 24 other legislators from parading and holding themselves as members of the Rivers State House of Assembly has been granted by a Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt.
The Chief Judge of Rivers State, the State Attorney General of Rivers State, and Governor Siminalayi Fubara—the 26th and 28th defendants in the lawsuit—were also granted an interlocutory injunction by the court, which was chaired by Justice C.N. Wali.
It is forbidden for them to deal with, deal with Amaewhule and the other 24 people, or receive any resolution, bill, or other acts from them.
In a decision on a lawsuit brought by Victor Oko-Jumbo, the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, and Orubienimigha Adolphus-Timothy as claimants, Justice Wali barred Amaewhule and the other twenty-four people from using the House of Assembly quarters auditorium or any other location to conduct any legislative business.
According to reports, the court also ruled Amaewhule’s and the other 24 seats vacant until the substantive suit was heard and decided.
A motion hearing was scheduled on July 1, 2024, and the case was postponed.
