The Niger Delta Youth Leaders Front and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) have called for an autopsy report on the late Jeffrey Chamuke Akron, an Ajayi Crowther University student studying mechanical engineering.

The demand came after Akron was beaten to death by his colleagues on a phone theft accusation, raising worries that the true offenders might not have been taken into custody.

A custody center will hold the 25 alleged students, who range in age from 18 to 34, until their trial on July 8 after they were sent there following their arraignment on Wednesday before the Chief Magistrate Court in Oyo State.

The late Akron was rumored to have been tormented by his colleagues from 6 p.m. on Friday until roughly 10 a.m. on Saturday. Akron lived in Shepherd Inn, a dormitory on the campus of the university.

The NANS leadership visited the institution on Wednesday in an attempt to compel security personnel to perform an autopsy on the dead, an Itsekiri prince from Warri, Delta State, in order to ascertain the real identities of those responsible for the murder.

Speaking with reporters and confirming their visit to the institution, Comrade Lucky Emonefe, President of NANS Universal, and Honorable Chukwutem Nwogor, President of the Niger Delta Youth Leaders Front, demanded justice for the late Jeffrey Chamuke Akron.

They expressed doubts about the identities of the 25 suspects who were charged before the Oyo Magistrate Court, and they claimed that certain security personnel and the school administration were trying to hide the true killers of the victims.

The Honorable Chukwutem Nwogor accused the Minister of Education of being callous since the regrettable occurrence occurred, claiming that the dorm where students are being housed at Ajayi Crowther University is uninhabitable.

They urged Tahir Mamman, the minister of education, to take action about the regrettable event at the university and to demonstrate his ability to oversee both public and private universities.

He said, “On our visitation to Ajayi Crowther on Wednesday, if you visit the hostel of the school, it is shameful to the National University Commission.

“What people are just interested in is money, not thinking about the safety of the people. I don’t see any reason why proper facilities are not being put in place before you can approve such a school to have a hostel.

“Now that this unfortunate incident has happened, the school is running helter-skelter to fix the hostel.

“It is also shameful that till this moment, neither the Commissioner for Education for Oyo State nor the Minister has visited the scene or put a call to the family of the late student. What is the reason why you are in government? It is to protect lives and property.

“The killing of the innocent boy was barbaric. That hostel is uninhabitable.”

An investigation showed that Itsekiri elders invaded the institution last Wednesday in addition to NANS and the Niger Delta Youth Leaders.

The elders met with the school administration and went to the hostel where the late prince was allegedly battered to death, under the leadership of Prince Yemi Emiko, the deceased’s uncle.

They also went to the morgue, where it was rumored that the deceased’s body was held.
