Senator Benson Friday Konbowei (PDP-Bayelsa Central) was cleared of certificate fabrication charges by an FCT High Court in Apo.

On March 26, Konbowei appeared in court to be charged with three counts, one of which included fabricating a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) exemption certificate.

Just moments after Reuben Egwuaba, the prosecutor, requested to end the case, Justice Christopher Oba on Monday freed Konbowei and dismissed the charge.

At the matter’s Monday mention in court, Egwuaba informed the judge that Lateef Fagbemi, the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, who had earlier given him a fiat authorizing him to prosecute the case, had since revoked the fiat and instructed him to withdraw the charge.

As a result, Egwuaba requested to have the accusation dropped.

Chris Uche, SAN, the defense attorney who represented the senator alongside his younger brother Gordy Uche, SAN, and others, did not object to the withdrawal.

But Uche’s request for the charge to be dropped was denied by Justice Oba, who decided to strike the charge.
