On Tuesday, the Concerned Rivers Citizens, or CRC, announced the expulsion of a few of its members who were allegedly supporters of the state’s previous governor, Nyesom Wike.
The group said that the accused impostors were banished due to their nefarious and self-serving actions in a statement released by Secretary-General Kelvin Eguono and President Jackson Thomas.
“We are shocked that these individuals would go to the extent of blackmailing Governor Simi Fubara in an attempt to please their paymasters while ignoring the real issues on the ground.
“We want to make it clear that we are not part of their scheme and do not support their actions,” the statement said.
The group made it clear that it is an impartial organization dedicated to advancing accountability and good government, and that neither Wike nor the current governor, Siminalayi Fubara, had their allegiance.
“We are committed to promoting the truth and the rule of law in Rivers State, and we will not be swayed by personal interests or political affiliations,” it added.
The political issue that has persisted despite the intervention of President Bola Tinubu and other players was sparked by a confrontation between Fubara and Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, in 2023.
