The Kano State Emirates Council Establishment Bill 2024 was passed by the Kano State House of Assembly on Tuesday after passing a third reading.
Muhammad Bello Bututu, a legislator from the Rimin Gado/Tofa state constituency, was the bill’s sponsor.
According to the bill, Karaye, Rano, and Gaya would continue to be second-class emirates while Kano would become a first-class emirate.
The bill states that the emirs of the three second-class emirates would report to the emir of Kano and be able to advise him on any issue pertaining to the upkeep of public order, a boundary dispute, or a disagreement involving two or more individuals within their respective spheres of influence.
