Admission age: Stakeholders protest as Education Minister pegs 18years

Stakeholders attending the 2024 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) policy conference were startled when Education Minister Prof. Mamman Tahir declared that applicants must be at least 18 years old in order to be admitted to universities.

The crowd screamed “no, no, no” as soon as the Minister made the comment in his speech and policy directive, but Tahir argued that it is already a policy that the government has tuned on because it is expected that candidates are significantly more mature at the age of 18.

He noted that anyone who felt wronged might request an amendment from the National Assembly.
