Philips Shaibu, the Edo State deputy governor who was reinstated, announced on Friday that he had become an unofficial member of the All Progressives Congress, or APC.
Because he hasn’t cut his ties to the Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, Shaibu maintained he is still a member of the organization.
He was speaking during an appearance on Morning Show on Arise Television.
In an attempt to clarify his endorsement of Monday Okpebholo, the APC candidate for governor of Edo State, the controversial deputy governor said he was no longer affiliated with the PDP.
He said: “In PDP now, everybody can support whoever they like. On the issue of supporting a candidate, the constitution guarantees that you can support who you like and you can belong to any political party.”
You may recall that Shaibu recently gave Okpebholo campaign vehicles.
He received the donation in the midst of a confrontation with Governor Godwin Obaseki that resulted in his impeachment as deputy governor.
On Thursday, though, Shaibu was appointed deputy governor again by the Abuja Federal High Court.
