Bashir Ahmad, the former media assistant to former President Muhammadu Buhari, has criticized the purported decision of the protest organizers on August 1 to include Nnamdi Kanu’s release, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, among their demands.
If the demonstrators’ demands included Kanu’s unconditional release, Ahmad promised never to participate in the demonstration again.
The former presidential adviser posted the following on X: “You should not expect me to join a protest where the unconditional release of terrorist Nnamdi Kanu is listed as one of the non-negotiable demands. Never!”
Popular activist Omoyele Sowore, who organized the nationwide protest, had revealed the main requests that should be presented to President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
According to reports, the country’s economic circumstances have prompted people, especially young people, to organize a widespread protest.
Nigerian youths have insisted on starting the protest across all 36 states as well as the Federal Capital Territory, or FCT, Abuja, despite official attempts to put an end to the initiative.
The goal of the impending “Days of Rage” or “EndBadGovernance” demonstration is to make the Federal Government aware of the dire state of the nation’s economy.
The unconditional release of Kanu is one of Sowore’s demands.
Despite being granted bail by the courts, the head of IPOB has been detained by the Nigerian government.
