Some young people have defied government requests and taken to the streets of Niger State to express their disapproval of Nigeria’s dire economic conditions.

It was reported that on Monday, the demonstrators rushed the streets while singing songs critical of the government.

They brandished signs that read, among other things, “Enough is Enough,” “Stop Anti-Masses Policies,” “We Are Not Slaves In Our Country,” “Hardship Is Unbearable,” and “Fuel Subsidy Must Be Back.”

Remembers how, in an attempt to quell the demonstration last week, Governor Mohammed Bago courted Niger’s citizens with welfare gifts.

In an effort to lessen the current economic suffering, he had ordered the immediate release of 50,000 metric tons of varied grains to be sold at subsidized rates and announced a N20,000 wage allowance for civil servants in state and local government.

More details later…
