Dr. Doyin Okupe, a former director-general of the Peter Obi Presidential Campaign Organization, claims that people who mistreat and disparage him for endorsing President Bola Tinubu’s economic recovery plan are illiterate.

This comment was made by Okupe, a former presidential spokesperson, in a statement on Monday in Lagos.

According to reports, several Nigerians have been insulting Okupe on X (previously known as Twitter) for endorsing some policies of the current government.

According to Okupe, his assailants were just political pricks who liked to make fun of people who had more knowledge than them.

The former presidential spokesman claimed to be more open-minded than his detractors and to have seen enough in the nation.

He asserts that the Nigerian project is greater than any individual or political organization.

Okupe said: “Except we join hands together to move this country forward, we will be doing the future generations a huge disservice and adding to the sufferings of the masses.

“The Nigeria project belongs to all of us irrespective of the political party and political leader in power.

“We must, with all sense of patriotism, support whoever God has chosen by His supreme providence to lead.

“After elections we must shield our swords, criticise government constructively and patiently wait till the next election. That is the culture of true and enduring Democracy”he said.

The lawmaker expressed sadness over the fact that many young Nigerians who abuse their elders have little or no knowledge about the country.

Long since having left the Labour Party, Okupe claimed that those making accusations against him had never taken into account the danger he made in backing Obi in opposition to his own interests.

He said that his support for Obi was motivated by his own free choice and convictions.

Despite the fact that there were undoubtedly more personally advantageous opportunities elsewhere, Okupe claimed to have acted without hesitation and without any expectation of personal reward.

He claimed that if he won, he and Obi had an understanding that he would not serve in his government.

According to the former presidential spokesman, he offered to serve as the president’s personal advisor and an older statesman.

Okupe claims that Obi is still alive to substantiate or dispute his claim.
