The Northern Youth Leaders Forum (NYLF) has called for Barrister Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to be fired and placed under arrest for allegedly endangering democracy.
The NYLF, which is made up of around 50 youth organizations from the 19 Northern states and the Federal Capital Territory, made this statement.
Recalled that Barr. Wike, on Saturday, August 31, 2024, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, publicly threatened to cause a crisis of whatever form in the PDP-controlled states because the PDP governors expectedly identified with one of them in the Rivers State political crisis.
The group went on to characterize the remarks made by Barr. Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, as grave and dangerous. They also added that the Northern Youth saw this as a call for anarchy, a threat to democracy, highly provocative, and an invitation to chaos that could completely erase any gains made or recorded by the democratic dispensation and jeopardize the very fabric of our nation’s cohesion, unity, and progress.
“The Northern Youth are concerned with the silence and inaction of the Federal Government and the Security Agencies, who have turned a deaf ear and blind eye to these inimical, ruthless, arrogant, proud, boastful, and irresponsible utterances of Barr. Wike, which are capable of scuttling and destroying the trust and confidence we have in this administration,” the statement said.
The group vehemently requested Barrister Wike’s immediate arrest, per the statement headlined “ARREST NYESOM WIKE NOW.”
“We demand that the Federal Government direct the Security Agencies to arrest Barr. Wike and have him sign an undertaking that he will not in any way initiate or carry out his threat and that he will be held responsible for any crisis in the PDP-controlled states.
“Otherwise, we will invariably believe that the Federal Government is complicit and is also backing Wike to cause crises in these states as he is currently doing in Rivers State,” NYLF said.
In addition, the group called for Wike to be removed from the Federal Executive Council and urged the PDP to suspend the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
It declared that Barr. Wike should be suspended indefinitely by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and prohibited from calling or attending party meetings at any level due to extreme necessity and urgency.
“Consequently, we want to categorically state that the Northern Youth are strongly and firmly behind the Senator Bala Mohammed-led PDP Governors Forum as far as this matter is concerned and will do everything humanly possible within the confines of the law to support the Forum in any capacity or form,” the group assured.
In this regard, they reaffirmed their complete and unwavering support for Governor Fubara and their Ijaw counterparts.
