The Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, is prayed for by the All Progressives Congress, or APC, to carry on conducting elections in the same manner as it did in the governorship election that took place in Edo State on Saturday, according to Jeret Tenebe, Chairman of the party’s Edo State chapter.

Tenebe made this statement while addressing to reporters on Sunday night in Benin. He added that Nigeria would have a smooth voting process if INEC carried out elections in the same manner as it did in Edo.

He denied claims that the APC rigged the Edo governorship poll to benefit its candidate, Monday Okpebholo, saying it was the most fair election he had ever seen.

The state party chairman gave an explanation of how Monday Okpebholo, the incoming governor, would further the state’s development, emphasizing the empowerment of women and young people.

He went on to say that Governor Godwin Obaseki was the reason why Asue Ighodalo, the PDP’s candidate for governor, lost.

“Our party cannot rig the election, because we are not INEC. And the elections that we saw yesterday are the fairest election ever conducted in this state. And we pray that INEC continues like this. And if they continue like this, it then means the country is going to be advancing to seeing a proper and good electoral process.

“This victory is a victory for Edo state. It is a victory for all Edo people. This victory means so much for us.

“Okpebholo will bring development. He is going to empower the youths. He is going to empower women. Okpebholo will unite the state. No respect for traditional rulers will stop. This result reflects what happened on Saturday.

“Nobody would see anything that has to do with Obaseki and touch it. Nobody wants to touch Obaseki,” Tenebe added.
