On Thursday, September 26, civil servants who are employed by the federal government will begin to receive the new minimum salary payment.

This was revealed in an exclusive interview with newsmen on Thursday by Bawa Mokwa, the spokesperson for the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation.

He promised that starting on Thursday, employees would start receiving notifications about their new minimum wage compensation.

Mokwa did not specify whether or if the minimum wage will be paid in addition to its arrears, though.

Federal Government public officials will begin receiving the new minimum pay on Thursday, September 20, 2024, he informed our correspondent. He said to reporters, “All I can say is that the minimum wage salary payment is today; I’m not sure about the arrears.”

The National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission Chairman, Ekpo Nta, announced on Tuesday that the government has approved the upward revision of the CONPSS (consolidated public service salary structure) to bring it in accordance with the minimum wage (Amendment) Act, 2024. This is when he made his comment.

This came after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved a new minimum salary of N70,000 on July 18, 2024.

Subsequently, the Senate enacted the revised minimum wage measure.
