The Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, chapter in Anambra State has disapproved of the results of the state’s local government council elections held on Saturday.
This was revealed by the party’s state chairman, Chigozie Igwe, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Awka.
Recalls that on Sunday night, Mrs. Genevieve Osakwe, the chairman of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC), proclaimed the winners of the 21 local government councils and 326 wards for the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) as well as their candidacies for council seats.
Osakwe characterized the election as free, fair, credible, and peaceful when announcing the results.
Igwe, however, referred to the exercise as a pantomime and stated that the PDP was justified in its disapproval of the results because it did not abstain from the election like other political parties did.
The PDP chairman stated that the party was currently reviewing the exercise’s specifics in order to decide whether to contest it.
“They gave us one month to prepare for the election, within that period we sold forms, screened nominees, conducted primary, campaign and met all the conditions.
“But on election day, ANSIEC sent materials and officials to where they liked, no result was released to anywhere including Zikdton primary school, Nza Ozubulu, where I voted.
“They conducted a charade in the name of election. So we are rejecting whatever result they released,” he said.
