After the administration of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, was given a 14-day ultimatum, staff members of the agency went on an indefinite nationwide strike on Monday.

This follows a meeting that was called on Friday, October 4, 2024, to discuss outstanding matters.

A review and reassessment of the 2024 promotion examination results, which now indicate a pass rate of only 35 percent, is one of the demands made by the workforce.

Additionally, the union is pushing for a minimum standard of 80 percent for both this year’s and upcoming promotion exams.

For workers engaged in 2022, the payment of salary arrears is another important need.

The union filed a statement, signed by Ejor Michael, the association’s secretary, accusing NAFDAC management of disregarding their complaints and calling for an end to the inaction.

The Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government-Owned Companies (SSASCGOC) has directed the striking employees to cease all operations and leave their offices.

Additionally, they were instructed to remove personal items when the strike gets underway.

The employees have promised to hold off on ending the strike until all of the demands stated in their communiqué are met.
