On Thursday, a bill that would create Ogoja State passed second reading in the House of Representatives.

During plenary, Godwin Offiono and three other people sponsored the bill.

The goal of the constitution amendment bill is to add a new South-South state by amending the 1999 Constitution.

Mr. Offiono, who made the motion, stated that equity was the “essence of this bill.”

There would be seven states in the South-South area if the measure were to become law.

Without any member opposition, the bill passed second reading and was forwarded to the House Committee on Constitution Review.
