According to the Defense Headquarters (DHQ), calling for a military takeover in Nigeria is treasonous and should be avoided.

The warning came after a social media video clip that went viral and called for the Nigerian military to overthrow the government of President Bola Tinubu.

In response, the military said in a statement released Monday by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, its Director of Defense Information, that it is “loyal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and steadfastly committed to the preservation and advancement of our democracy.”

The military is still committed to carrying out its legal obligations to safeguard the integrity of the country, the statement continued.

Additionally, the DHQ ordered the nation’s security services to take the appropriate measures against any person or organization “advocating for unconstitutional changes in the country.”
