The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation’s ministerial nominee, Nentawe Yilwatda, revealed that over 65% of Nigeria’s impoverished reside in the country’s northern regions.

Thus, Yilwatda claimed that the area should receive additional funding in accordance with the needs analysis.

He made this claim on Wednesday while testifying before the Senate as a member of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) and a candidate for confirmation as a minister.

“65 percent of poor people live in the North while 35 percent live in the South.

“We should talk about what is needed in each local government and states, revenue allocation should be shared by how poor or rich states are,”

Yilwatda made this statement when discussing strategies to reduce poverty in Nigeria.

After that, he was instructed to “bow and go.”

President Bola Tinubu nominated Yilwatda last week to succeed former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction Betta Edu, who was fired.

Whether or not to confirm the nominee for the ministerial job will be decided by the Senate later today.
