Despite his party’s loss in the most recent Abia State local government elections, Abia State Governor Alex Otti has stated that he remains a member of the Labour Party (LP).
In response to questions from reporters during his monthly press conference, Otti made this claim at Government House Umuahia on Thursday. He blamed the poor results the party recorded on the LP problem.
Even though he said that his fans voted for the appropriate candidates regardless of their political party agendas, he clarified that many of them left the LP because they were unhappy with the crisis.
“I can assure you that I am in the Labour Party. The crisis in the Labour Party made a lot of our supporters go elsewhere.
“Political parties are simply platforms and when you muddle up things in your political party, you create opportunities for your competitor and that was what happened during this last election.
“I remain in the Labour Party and any time I am going to leave, that is if there is any need to leave, you will be properly informed,” he declared.
The governor reaffirmed that the retirees were never tricked into signing documents with the state government as they claimed, despite the assertions of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP) Abia State chapter officials that they did not forgo their gratuities.
