On Tuesday, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo pledged to uphold the trust that the electorate had placed in him by choosing him to lead the state.

The governor reportedly made the pledge upon his inauguration as the state’s sixth elected governor.

He promised that his administration’s “Five-point Agenda” places the wellbeing of its constituents at the forefront.

According to him, the five-point agenda is intended to enhance people’s lives and promote strong economic growth.

Security, Road and Infrastructure Development, Affordable Healthcare, Water and Food Sufficiency, and Value-Driven Education statewide were the five points on the incoming governor’s agenda.

On September 21, 2024, Okpebholo, the senator who had served Edo Central in the prior, was elected governor.

16 candidates from various political parties who ran for governor, including his close challenger Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), were defeated by the new governor, who is a candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Dennis Idahosa, Okpebholo’s deputy and the former lawmaker for the Ovia Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, was also sworn in.
